Do you know the meaning of that conversation? Ok, I will explain you one by one about some important sentence that is usually used in the daily activity for introducing yourself.

In the part of introducing yourself, we will know about how to greet people and ask their condition today, also we ask their identity as well. Bahasa Indonesia has four famous greeting that is same with English, among other:

  • Selamat Pagi (Good Morning)
  • Selamat Siang (Good Afternoon)
  • Selamat Sore (Good Evening)
  • Selamat Malam (Good Night)

So if you want to greet someone, you could use one of those expression as the suit condition at that time. Usually, in the introduction yourself, there are several things that you have to ask to the person you want to know, such as:

Siapa Nama Anda

  • Name
  • Address
  • Work
  • Age (if it’s important)

What kind of the question in bahasa Indonesia that is related to the category? Let’s see the common expression or question below:

  • Siapa nama Anda? (What is your name?)
  • Dimana Anda tinggal? (Where do you live?)
  • Anda darimana? (Where are you from?)
  • Apa pekerjaan Anda? (What do you do for work?)
  • Berapa umur Anda? (How old are you?)
  • Dimana Anda bekerja? (Where do you work?)

Those expression could be used for the first conversation in introducing yourself. They will answer with the various things that is little bit same with the dialog I showed before.

               dengan Anda?

laki saya 8 tahun dan anak perempuan saya 4 tahun.

Manto   : Itu bagus. Oh ya, saya harus pergi, senang bertemu lagi dengan

James  : Saya juga senang bertemu dengan Anda.

Sometimes, the question about marital status becomes the common question in Indonesia like Apa Anda sudah menikah (are you married?) and How many children do you have (berapa orang anak Anda?). These questions could be asked if you have already known about the person. In Indonesian language, we will know kind of expressions not only greeting but also asking permission, saying goodbye, and also asking apologize such as:

Siapa nama Anda

  • Terima kasih (Thank you)
  • Mohon maaf (I am sorry)
  • Maaf (Sorry)
  • Permisi (Excuse me)
  • Saya harus pergi (I have to go)
  • Sampai jumpa (See you)

Those expression is the easy ways for you to start the conversation in bahasa Indonesia for the first time knowing each other with the local people. They will appreciate you if you want to practice what you have learned and try to understand about the culture of this country.
